JOE MILLAGE – PARA CAOCH

Joe Millage is a sport and recreation innovator and thought leader. He has played leadership roles in developing Canada’s strongest and largest integrated sport club.

He states …. “Working with teams through very successful seasons at competitive and recreational levels has been in my DNA for decades and making sure that all programs have a welcoming environment is hugely important to me”.

Joe truly believes, all people, including those with physical, developmental, intellectual, sensory, mental health, behavioural and progressive neurological conditions, regardless of how they identify themselves can enrich their lives through activity and sport.

Some of his accomplishments include….

●.Facility Management/ Design including Variety Village, Abilities Centre, and facilities and programs for Ronald McDonald Children’s Centre in Moscow–the first of its kind in that area of the world

●Extensive coaching experience including Paralympic/Olympic athletes

● Canadian Standards Association – Strategic Steering Committee on Community Safety and Well-being including standards for accessibility (2006 – 2017, Chair 2011-2017)

● Worked with several school boards to establish Fitness Friends – a program to facilitate the inclusion of students with special needs through a peer mentoring physical activity program benefiting 10,000+ students (1999 – 2006)

●Building inclusive program supports in the Niagara Region (2018 – ongoing)

●Building the sport of Sitting Volleyball across Ontario

●Chair of the Ontario Games for the Physically Disabled (1998)

● Director – ParaSport Ontario (Chair 2014 – 2019)

● Whitby Rotary Club – Director (President 2019-2020)

● Leader, Impact Book–100+ stories highlighting ‘difference makers’ in the community

● Columnist/Writer Local newspaper and magazines (durhamregion.com)

●Master Course Conductor OMHA (1991 – present), teaching coaching certification programs and skills development clinics – have taught 15,000+ coaches

● Director – Canadian Paralympic Foundation (2009 – 2012)

● Founded the largest integrated Athletic Club in Canada – from grass roots to Paralympic and Olympic podium performances

● coached University, College, High School and Clubs teams that have made it to Provincial or National Championships in 11 sports.
